Reconfigurable blocks that illuminate Central Market’s sidewalk
Block by Block, is a temporary kinetic 10 x 24 foot installation composed of blocks of milled urban timber and illuminated HDPE plastic. The blocks are reconfigurable, and can be stacked, swung, or pivoted. The installation is open for occupation and interpretation – a platform for performing, protesting, playing and for simply enjoying life on the block.
Block by Block is the hub for Light Up Central Market, a series of installations around 6th and Market Streets that include lighting on the Luggage Store Gallery façade and the illumination of existing murals by artists Clare Rojas, OSGEMEOS, Mark Bode and Jenny Sharaf. From Block by Block, participants can view OSGEMEOS’ mural painted on a building façade across the street and discover the other installations in Central Market.
